Reminders before you go home
The residence halls will be closed on Saturday, February 16th at 9:00am (no later!!), and all resident students must vacate their respective halls. We reopen on Sunday, February 24th at 1:00pm (no earlier!!). It is imperative that you read and follow the closing instructions outlined below. By following them correctly, you will avoid possible billing.
*Unplug all appliances. Be sure to pay special attention to refrigerators (defrosting = water!)
*Clean out all trash and dispose of open parcels of food
*Clear off windowsills (particularly in ground level - Pit and 1st floor - rooms)
*Close and lock windows; lower and close blinds
*DO NOT LEAVE MONEY OR VALUABLES IN YOUR ROOM
*Take home items specifically prohibited by the Residence Hall Licence (plug adapters, extension cords, candles, etc.)
*Close and lock the room whether you're the first or the last to leave
After closing, residence hall staff will visually scan each room to verify compliance with the above and to ascertain that everyone is out. ALL STUDENT ROOMS WILL BE INSPECTED DURING THE BREAK!
If there is a security or maintenance problem evident during the vacation period, residence hall staff and/or other college staff members will enter rooms and necessary repairs will be made.

Hall Government Updates
As you all know last weekend was the Superbowl and we, Littell Hall Government, would like to thank all who came and participated in the party that we threw last Sunday for the big game. Also, congratulations to the winners of the Superbowl pool. We would like you all to stay tuned to hear about any of our upcoming programs.
Most of you know that April 12, 2008 is our hall’s Saturday Night Fever, which is a party that our hall is holding for the whole school. Since this is a big program we are going to need help with our committees. The types of committees available to join are: games and activities headed by Jon Gibbs, Brendan Sherlock and Paul Tom; food headed by Tony Riggi and Jon Gibbs; decorations headed by Sara Countryman, Amy Alsheimer and Lindsey Zwiebach; and publicity headed by Brendan Sherlock, Lindsey Zwiebach, and Paul Tom. If you would like to be part of any of these groups come to the Hall Government meetings on Wednesdays at 7 o’clock or contact any one of us.
If there any types of programs you would like to see happen let any of us know, but the best way to get your idea to happen is to come to the meetings Wednesdays at 7 o’clock.
For anyone who would like to buy a Littell Hall t-shirt let anyone on e-board know or Max Hoffman. Shirts are $15, and they look like this:

Saturday, February 9 is Wilber Hall’s Saturday Night Fever; it is a stop light party. So wear green if you are single, red if you are in a relationship and yellow if it is “complicated”. It starts a 10pm and goes till 1 am.
Also this Saturday is the Battle of the Red Dragons game versus Cortland. The women’s game is at 4pm and men’s game is at 6pm or whenever the women’s game is over. Come support our very own RA Mook who will be in the REAL Red Dragon suit.

Grade Busters
Grade Busters has started again! Make sure you get your best grades to your team leader each week.
When you get your grades back, you can take them to RD Kirsten for extra points while ATM Megan is away.
Ask your RA if you have any questions about Grade Busters. Here are the rules in case you've forgotten:
Grade Busters Competition Information and Rules
Grade Busters is an academic game in which the floors of Littell Hall compete with each other to see which floor can accumulate the highest number of grade points in a month. Residents are encouraged to report to the Academic Team Member (ATM) the grade points they have received for tests or quizzes in their classes. THIS IS A COMPLETELY VOLUNTARY GAME! RESIDENTS WILL ONLY REPORT GRADE POINTS TO THE ACADEMIC TEAM MEMBER IF THEY WISH TO!
Procedure
1. Each floor will select a team leader. The team leader will be responsible for encouraging all residents to participate in the program and collecting residents’ top grades for the week.
2. We will accept tests, quizzes, papers of at least 3 full pages, or notes from professors reporting students’ grades on tests or quizzes. Residents may submit grades from any month/semester in the 2007-2008 school year, but only one grade per student will be accepted per week.
3. The team leader will select the top ten scores from all the submitted grades and take them to their RA by Sunday at 6pm.
4. The RA will initial the top ten submitted scores and will give them back to the floor rep with Littell Loot for each participant.
5. The team leader will return the scored papers with attached Littell Loot to each participant.
6. Residents must take their initialed grades to ATM Megan Murray during her office hours on Monday 6-7:30pm or Tuesday 5:30-7pm. If the team leader takes all the grades to the ATM, the floor will receive ONLY 50 extra points. If the participants take their own scores to the ATM, they will receive 50 points APIECE for the floor – and collect more Littell Loot! No extra points will be awarded for grades submitted to the ATM after 7pm on Tuesday.
7. The ATM will tally each floor’s scores and update them weekly on the Grade Busters bulletin board in the first floor lounge.
8. The floor that scores the most points by the end of each month will be declared the winner and will receive either an ice cream or pizza party.
9. Team leaders who fulfill their duties will be invited to attend the winning team’s party, regardless of whether they reside on the winning floor. They will also receive $20 of Littell Loot.

Spend the Night!
Hi Littell, this is RA Mook from 3rd Est! I wanted to let you all know about the Spend the Night Program and what it's all about. (See me for the form and additional questions or concerns as soon as you can).
Spend the Night is a program that SUCO does for prospective students, most likely seniors in high school, who have been accepted to the college but may have not quite decided this is where they want to go. Spend the Night is an opportunity for an accepted student to come for one night and stay with a current student here. They will ask questions, get to know the school a little bit, get to know what it's like to live in a residence hall. The program is basically to be a fun, hands-on way to convince them to come to college here, so your outlook on Oneonta must be positive during the course of their visit. Remember, your job is to make them feel comfortable here and want to come here. One of the biggest rules is that you CANNOT take your student off campus and actually the both of you sign a waiver saying you won't. YOU'RE responsible for the student until you get he/she back to their parents.
There is a training session you must attend, (probably a half hour long) which you sign up for on the form you get from me to do the program. Pick a training session you know you can attend because you MUST go if you're serious about Spend the Night.
I personally have done Spend the Night twice and had a great time each time. Here's what happens: You pick up your boy/girl that was assigned to you the night of the Spend the Night, you take him/her back to your residence hall. Talk to him/her, answer questions, make him/her feel comfortable, get to know each other, introduce him/her to some of your friends, watch a movie, get food go to sleep. (Or whatever you choose to do, guitar hero, whatever, as long as he/she is having a good time). The next morning: go to breakfast with him or her so he/she can see what the dining hall is like, then you escort him/her to a class that he/she was assigned to sit in on. It may be your own if you have an early class; if not you can choose to sit in on it or not, but you have to pick up your student after the class then escort him/her back to where the parents are (either Morris or Hunt, they'll tell you).
It's REALLY easy and REALLY fun, and did I mention you get volunteer hours for doing Spend the Night??!! Yes!!! You get volunteer hours for this! (You NEED a certain amount of volunteer hours to GRADUATE actually, if you didn't know) so Spend the Night is one of the most popular ways to stack up the volunteer hours because it's been known to be the most fun way to do it.
This semester the FYE halls are having a competition to see which hall can host the MOST spend the nights, so I'm trying really hard to inform Littell so we win!!! I already have a lot of people signed up. Make sure it's okay with your roommate before filling out the form, host as many as you can handle (they sleep on your floor and know to come with a sleeping bag so you don't have to provide them with a pillow or anything). It's so fun AND you can put this on a resume.
Please find me for a form, fill it out and get it back to me - I'll turn it in for you.

What happens to the stuff we send up to space?
Well apparently, it comes back down...or could. One of the satellites orbiting the earth lost power and is now uncontrollable. Water as an energy source?
What has been around for a while, tastes pretty good, and can be used as a fuel? Well...water...duh!
For a while now consumers have been trying to find alternative energy sources but none have really taken off.
Over a year ago, this video was leaked out onto YouTube in hopes that people would see some more of the uses for readily available resources. You might have thought Biodiesel was strange but water will blow your mind (No pun intended). The last I'd heard,a contract was offered from the U.S. government to use his patents for our military vehicles in Iraq.

Ever wondered about stock market trading?
Years ago I found this website to learn about the stock markets in the United States. Some of you may have used this site in High School. Marketocracy allows you to make virtual funds accounts to "invest" in real stocks. You can use it to test pilot some stocks or funds you may be interested in before making the real move or just for fun. Hope you use this to your financial advantage.
